About Nusa Penida

Nusa Penida is famous for its dramatic limestone cliffs, but the island also holds less-told traditions. In Pejukutan village many families weave rangrang, a ceremonial (bebali) cloth with geometric motifs and small open gaps between the threads. It is worn in customary ceremonies, and its diamond motif is read as a symbol of honesty and harmony. The island is revered by Balinese Hindus as the home of Pura Dalem Ped and of Giri Putri, a cave with a shrine inside, and many worshippers cross from mainland Bali to pray here.

Getting there

Fast boats from Sanur Harbour take about 30–60 minutes depending on sea conditions; Sanur is about 30–45 minutes from the airport.
