Etno Journey

A path into the soul of culture, tradition and nature.

Welcome to Etno Journey. Here, every step is more than travel: it is a dialogue with heritage, a reflection within, and a reverence for the living earth.

This is not just a destination, but a movement: a celebration of stories, rituals and landscapes that connect humanity across time. Let Etno Journey be your guide to experiences that inspire, educate and transform.

Curator's picks

The journeys people remember

Small groups, guides from the community itself, and schedules that follow the rhythm of the village rather than the other way round.

How we travel

Travel that gives back

Led by local hosts

Every tour is led by someone from the community itself: temple priests, weavers, fishermen or village cooks.

Small groups

A dozen or so travellers per departure at most, so visits never overwhelm daily village life.

Fair revenue sharing

Most of what you pay goes directly to the host families and customary groups.

Respect for custom

We brief you on etiquette before you go: what to wear, when photos are welcome and how to take part politely.

Tegallalang rice terraces in the morning

Field notes

Morning in the Subak, when water is shared with prayer

Before sunrise the pekaseh opens the sluice and lays an offering at the edge of the dyke. The subak system has governed Bali's rice fields since the 11th century, and it still works because its people still believe in it. On our journey you don't just look at terraces. You walk behind the farmers who keep them.

“The water isn't mine. My job is only to share it.”
A saying among the pekaseh of Subak Tegallalang

Kind words

From our travellers

Reading the reliefs with a local guide changed how I see Borobudur.

Truly slow and authentic. I felt like part of the family.

The evening by the stove with a Tengger family was the highlight of my trip.
