About Ubud

Ubud, in Gianyar Regency, has long been known as Bali's centre of the arts. Almost every banjar (neighbourhood) around it has dance and gamelan groups and craftspeople who pass their skills down the generations. Neighbouring villages such as Batuan developed painting styles of their own from the 1930s. Away from the busy main street, village life still follows the ceremonial calendar. Canang sari offerings are made every day, and subak, the irrigation system recognised by UNESCO as part of the Cultural Landscape of Bali Province, shares water from upstream temples down to the last rice terrace. Our Ubud journeys are guided by local residents, so you arrive as a guest rather than a spectator.

Getting there

About 1–1.5 hours by road from I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, depending on traffic through Denpasar.
