About this journey

Stay overnight in Amed to watch the fishing jukung return at dawn and get to know coastal village life.

Jukung, Bali's outrigger canoes, are an everyday sight in Amed's bays. This tour has you stay one night so you can wake early and watch the fishers return to the beach, while Mount Agung slowly appears in the morning light. A local guide explains the lives of small-scale fishers on Bali's east coast, who also take part in marine tourism, and the challenge of lean fishing seasons. On the second day we walk along the bays of Jemeluk and Bunutan and stop at the traditional salt fields when they are in season.

Hosted by the local community in Amed
