About this journey

Visit villages with towering roofs and megalithic tombs, and learn about the Marapu belief.

This three-day trip visits customary villages in western Sumba. In Praijing, near Waikabubak, tall thatched roofs rise on a hilltop. In Ratenggaro, Kodi, houses with towering roofs stand near the coast among megalithic stone tombs. Your guide will explain the Marapu belief that shapes Sumba's houses, tombs and ceremonies, and the etiquette of visiting, such as asking before taking photos. Pasola only takes place in February and March on dates set by the rato. If your dates coincide we will help you attend, but this tour does not promise Pasola.
