About this journey

Visit Sidemen's weaving households and learn how everyday endek differs from ceremonial songket.

In Sidemen, weaving happens in many homes. You will see how endek threads are tied to a pattern and dyed before weaving, and how songket gains supplementary threads that form its shimmering motifs. Your guide explains when each cloth is worn, from daily life to ceremonies such as tooth filing and weddings, and introduces Sidemen motifs such as cempaka and nagasari. In the late afternoon we take a short walk along the rice terraces to see the valley and, on clear days, Mount Agung.
