About this journey
Discover Pejeng's ancient temples, the bronze Moon of Pejeng and prehistoric stone coffins at the Gedong Arca Museum.
Pejeng was once the centre of an ancient Balinese kingdom, and its temples keep relics cared for as sacred objects. At Pura Penataran Sasih we view the Moon of Pejeng from below the pavilion that houses it and hear the legend of the moon that fell to earth, while learning why the drum is still revered.
In the afternoon we visit the Gedong Arca Museum to see sarcophagi and tools from the Stone Age to the Bronze Age, ending with a conversation about how residents look after these sites as part of everyday temple life.
