About this journey

Two days in the cultural village of Liya Togo: learn homoru weaving and walk the Liya fort and the Liya Palace Mosque.

Liya Togo in South Wangi-Wangi is a cultural village about fifteen minutes from the centre of Wakatobi Regency. On their verandas, women weave homoru cloth used for sarongs, shawls and headscarves. You are introduced to the loom, how the threads are set up and the motifs handed down through generations, then weave a few rows yourself. Between weaving sessions we walk the Liya fort that encircles the village and the Liya Palace Mosque, both legacies of the Buton Sultanate, and see the pandan mats and traditional food covers residents also make.
