About this journey

Walk through the bamboo forest the village protects, then see how bamboo shapes its buildings and daily life.

Penglipuran's bamboo forest covers around 37.7 hectares with 15 bamboo species, and its conservation earned the village a Kalpataru award in 1995. This morning walk follows cool paths between bamboo groves, with a guide explaining the species and their uses. We then return to the village to see how bamboo is used for the roofs and walls of traditional buildings, before ending the morning with a simple breakfast.
