About this journey

An 8 km walk through a World Heritage landscape, from Batukaru forest to sweeping rice terraces.

Jatiluwih is part of UNESCO's Cultural Landscape of Bali Province. The trail starts at the forest edge below Mount Batukaru, passes cacao and coffee gardens, then drops into terraces still planted with local red rice. We stop at a farmer's home to taste red-rice tea and learn how the planting calendar follows ceremonies at the subak temple.

  • Our guide is a Jatiluwih farmer, so the stories were very personal.
